Pianist, Cellist Performing At Sharon Home

Pianist Randall Hodgkinson and cellist Joshua Gordon, will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the home of Glenn Mahnken, 19 Ashcroft Road.

The concert is part of the Sharon Performing Artists Association 2011-2012 concert series.

Seating is limited to 25 people. To reserve tickets, call 781-784-6681 and leave a message with your name and how many tickets you need. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors ages 65 and older and $6 for students through high school.  All proceeds are used to award scholarships to Sharon students who are attending summer music festivals and camps.

The program includes three pieces by Beethoven and one by American composer Arthur Berger, who taught at Brandeis University. The musicians will play Beethoven's Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 2  in G minor, op. 5; his Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 5 in D major, op. 102 and his Variations on a Theme from "The Magic Flute." The piece by Arthur Berger, Duo for Cello and Piano, was written in 1951.

Gordon is a member of the Lydian String Quartet at Brandeis University. Hodgkinson, a Sharon resident, is an artist member of the Boston Chamber Music Society and has performed with orchestras in Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Buffalo and Atlanta.  He is on the faculties of Wellesley College, the New England Conservatory of Music and the Longy School of Music.
