Shabbat services at Temple Israel of Sharon will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday and will be conducted by members of the temple's Sisterhood and Hazak.
The guest speaker will be Dr. Lawrence Lowenthal, adjunct professor at Northeastern University.
Lowenthal will discuss "The Landscape of the Middle East." He will present a clear overview of the political, social and military interactions of all of the nations comprising the Middle East. A Kiddush will follow the services.
Lowenthal recently retired from the position of national senior adviser to the American Jewish Committee in partnership with Sage Educational Services. His wide range experience includes serving a tour of duty in the Israeli Army, teaching English and American Literature at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and offering a variety of courses in the Greater Boston area on Jewish history, film, literature
and humor.
