High Bail for Couple Charged with Stealing from Disabled Woman

A Brockton couple was held on high bail after they allegedly stole more than $130,000 from a disabled woman and her father in Sharon.

Sharon police said Prisca Halaby, 35, and Dominique Halaby, both of 50 Westglow Rd., were charged with theft of property valued at over $250, credit card fraud, and identity fraud, among other charges.

Prisca Halaby was a caretaker for the 62-year-old disabled woman and her 92-year-old father, according to the Brockton Enterprise. In addition to stealing money, Halaby also withheld food and medicine from the woman, according to the Enterprise.

Sharon police said the thefts dated back to 2009.

"This has been an extensive and time-intensive grand jury investigation by Assistant District Attorney Greg Connor, chief of white collar prosecution in my office, and the Sharon Police Department, particularly Det. Kevin Bishop," District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said in a statement. "Det. Bishop’s work has been excellent.”

Prisca Halaby was held on $30,000 bail, while Dominique was held on $15,000, according to Sharon police.

The maximum penalty on the lead charge for each defendant is 10 years in prison.
