Wildflower Walk at Moose Hill Sunday, August 28th 10am-12noon
Join us for a walk to discover the wildflowers at Moose Hill. Whether you are new to native wildflowers or if they have long been a hobby of yours, there is no better way to learn about regional flora than in the field. In this program, participants will learn to identify native flora in a variety of habitats with the help of Ted Elliman, former botanist of the New England Wildflower Society. We will examine key identification features of flowers, leaves, and stems as well as family characteristics. Bring a hand lens; we will have some to borrow if you do not have your own.
Ted Elliman is the author of the new book: Wildflowers of New England; which describes and illustrates more than 1,000 species commonly encountered in the region and is the first comprehensive wildflower field guide to focus exclusively on New England. Ted’s book will be available for sale in the gift shop. Sunday August 28th 10am -12 noon, mbr $20, nonmb. $25.

Late Summer Choristers Sunday August 28th 6-8pm
Tree crickets, katydids, cicadas, oh my! During the late summer these chorusing invertebrates fill the air with their evening (and daytime) songs. But who is singing, how do they make such sounds, and why? Our resident Teacher Naturalist (and “bug guy”), Michael Acciavatti, will help you to learn what makes these elusive insects tick and how many species can be identified within a single chorus. Sunday August 28th 6-8pm, mbr $20, nonmbr $25.
