Lightning Strikes Sharon Shed

Lightning struck a backyard shed at a Sharon home during this morning's thunderstorm, damaging some of the contents, Capt. Bert Cummings said.

A firefighter extinguished the fire at 7 Mink Trap Lane with a fire extinguisher, Cummings said.

"The shed was pretty much destroyed," he said.

The lightning strike was reported at 9:58 a.m., the second of three such reports this morning, he said.

Two other reports proved unfounded, he said: at 9:49 a.m., at 26 Iron Hollow Road; and at 10:14 a.m., at 7 Foundry Road.

The sun has begun shining in Sharon.

However, the National Weather Service in Taunton says showers and possibly a thunderstorm could arrive today, with showers likely late tonight.
