No Bail for Sharon Man Charged with Illegally Owning Several Guns, Over 9,000 Rounds of Ammo

William Walker, 45, was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court.

Sharon, MA — A Sharon man charged with illegally possessing several firearms and rounds of ammunition will remain in custody at least through this week.

William Walker, 45, was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of large capacity magazines and ammunition, and possession of a firearm without a license. He was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

On June 24 at about 3 p.m., police in Sharon responded to a request to remove weapons from a home on Pleasant Street. The woman, identified as Walker’s wife, told police she had a restraining order against Walker and wanted a box full of weapons removed from her garage, fearful that he might use the weapons to kill her, according to a police report.

Inside the garage was an orange tool box with the weapons inside. It was taken to the police station for safekeeping, the report said.

After leaving the home, the officers went to Walker’s South Main Street residence to serve the restraining order. While speaking with Walker, police asked him if he had any firearms. According to the report, Walker allegedly hesitated and said he didn’t. He was then informed that his wife informed police of the orange tool box. Police requested the key to the box, which Walker handed to the officers.

Upon opening the box, police found a Remington 1100 shotgun, two Romanian AK-47s, an AR-15, rifle, a Cold Carbine, an S&W M&P 9mm, a Springfield Armory .45ACP, and over 9,000 rounds of ammunition.

Walker reportedly told police that all the guns and ammunition, except for the AR-15 rifle, were purchased while he was living in Denver, and he has never had a license to carry in any state. The AR-15 was purchased online, he said.

After moving from Denver, Walker said he used a storage container service to move the weapons to Seattle, and then again in March 2015 when he moved to Sharon and had the weapons moved into the garage.

Walker said he attempted to sell the guns to two dealerships, but when he informed the dealers he didn't have a license to carry, he was “basically kicked out of the store.” Walker told police that he wanted to get his gun license but a family situation prevented him from doing so.

Walker is due back in court for a dangerousness hearing on July 1.
