Norwood Man Killed In I-95 Crash In Sharon

State Police said the victim's Volkswagen was rear ended, spun off the road and hit a tree near South Walpole Street in Sharon on Thursday.

SHARON, MA — State Police said a 56-year-old Norwood man was killed in a two-car crash on I-95 northbound in Sharon Tuesday morning. State Police said the man's Volkswagen Jetta was hit from behind and spun off the highway into the median near South Walpole Street where it hit a tree.

State Police said an investigation determined the Volkswagen collided with the tree on the passenger side and that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to Norwood Hospital where he died from serious injuries sustained in the crash.

State Police said the driver of the other vehicle — a 2013 Ford Cmax — was a 45-year-old woman from Pawtucket, R.I. The woman was not injured.

State Police, the Sharon Fire Department and Sharon Emergency Management Services responded the crash site. An investigation determined both cars were traveling northbound in the middle lane about 9:30 a.m. when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the Ford struck the Volkswagen and it veered off the highway.

The Ford came to a stop in the breakdown lane.

The highway was closed about 30 minutes due to the crash. The right travel lane and breakdown lane opened about 12:15 p.m.
