Today in Sharon, an elderly resident was nearly the victim of a phone scam. The resident reported that she received a phone call from someone claiming to be with the IRS. The person told her that she was over $2,800 delinquent in her taxes and threatened her with arrest if she didn't pay it within 48 hours. Fortunately, she was sensible enough to speak with her accountant who advised her that this was likely a scam and she should not pay the money. Unfortunately, there are many elderly residents who will not read this as they do not use the internet. Please try to look out for elderly family members or anyone you think should be aware of these type of criminals who prey on those who are most vulnerable……………….
