Sharon Cable License Request Heads To Comcast

Selectmen OK issuing RFP.

Sharon is closer to a new cable television license with Comcast.

Tuesday night, selectmen authorized the Cable TV Oversight Committee to send a request for proposals for a new license.

Committee Chairman Charles Levine said Comcast will have 45 days upon receipt to respond. Agreeing on a new license before the current one expires in March is the goal, Levine said.

The new RFP will include "what we would like to see for the next 10 years, what we would like the license to be," he said.

The document will have boilerplate language from the previous one, with changes in metrics and numbers, Levine said. What Sharon Community Television gets for a revenue percentage and for capital is "probably one of our critical issues," he said.

Selectmen held two ascertainment public hearings on the renewal this year.
