Sharon Lions Feed the Homeless

Sharon Lions Club once again prepared and served a delicious dinner for the guests of Father Bill's homeless shelter in Quincy.

On Saturday, July 9, members of the Sharon Lions Club once again prepared and served a delicious dinner for over 100 homeless men and women at Father Bill's homeless shelter in Quincy.

The Sharon Lions Club provided brisket, vegetables, rice and salad, with dessert of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream donated by Sharon's own Crescent Ridge Dairy. Big Y, Stop & Shop and Shaw's Supermarkets also contributed toward this event. The volunteers from Sharon received a round of applause from the clients and staff of Father Bill’s.

Father Bill's helps homeless people of all ages to resume normal, productive lives in the community. They provide temporary shelter and hot meals while helping clients find jobs and housing.

The Sharon Lions Club is dedicated to raising money to support research for preventing blindness, as well as sponsoring events and services that benefit the community. Each year they help monitor the Sharon Health Department's flu clinic and assist in vision screening in the Sharon schools. They contribute to local scholarship funds. They have contributed to the Sharon library, police and fire departments. They also collect used eyeglasses and recycle them to third-world countries, where they are matched to people with vision problems who otherwise could not afford eyeglasses.

If you are interested in giving back to the community and having fun working with other dedicated volunteers, call Hanna Switlekowski, Membership Chairperson, at 339-364-1877 or stop by our table at the Sharon Square Jam on Thursday, August 4 to learn more about the Sharon Lions Club.
