Sharon Police, Firefighters: We Need a New Station
Plans call for a $25 million facility that would be built at the site of the current police station on South Main Street.
Sharon police and firefighters say they need a new station.
Plans call for a $25 million facility that would be built at the site of the current police station on South Main Street.
The following is a statement from police:
The Sharon Police and Fire Headquarters are in serious disrepair and in need of replacement. Both buildings are not compliant with State and Federal Codes including building, seismic, and ADA accessibility codes.
The fire station’s roof is failing, walls are deteriorating, and there is no separate area for decontamination, increasing the risk of exposure of clean medical supplies to hazardous materials. The police station’s roof is leaking, exterior siding is damaged and floor tile contains asbestos. In addition, both facilities were designed for smaller departments and do not provide adequate space for modern fire and police departments.
A recently completed study determined expansion of each existing facility is not feasible and a new combined 34,500 square foot public safety facility located on the site of the current Police Station and DPW is the most economical solution to meet the Town’s emergency and security needs for years to come.
