SHARON, MA — Children and college students are not the only ones headed back to school after the holiday break. Sharon Police K9 Buck is also preparing to hit the proverbial books later this month as he learns to better protect Sharon residents from explosive devices, chemicals and ammunition.

Buck and his handler, Sharon Officer Demeris will start "Explosive Ordinance Disposal Detection School" on Jan. 27. There the duo will learn to detect and identify 24 explosive chemical odors by scent alone. Sharon police said Buck will be able to detect them in the open and through porous surfaces upon certification.

"This will allow for extra safety and security all around town," Sharon police said.
