Sharon Student Receives Comcast Leaders & Achievers Award

Graduating Sharon student, Haley Cohen, receives a prestigious award for exemplary academic achievement, community service and leadership.

Sharon resident, Haley Cohen, a graduating senior from Norfolk County Agricultural High School, was recently recognized as one of a select group of students nationwide to receive the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Award. This Program, funded through the Comcast Foundation, recognizes high school seniors from Comcast communities for their commitment to community service, academics, and demonstrated leadership.

Only 2,000 students from across the United States received this Comcast award -- 95 in the state of Massachusetts. Haley and the other local recipients participated in a ceremony on the Grand Staircase of the Massachusetts State House in Boston on May 6, 2016. NECN morning anchor, Latoya Edwards, hosted the ceremony and awards were presented by Tracy Pitcher, Comcast Greater Boston Region’s Senior Vice President. The Comcast message to the students was, "We are proud to recognize the efforts of young people who are helping make our communities stronger and applaud you for your achievements. We wish you the best of luck as you pursue your future goals!"

To be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship award, students first had to be nominated by their school Principal or Guidance Counselor based on academic performance and leadership, and had to have a proven track record of performing extensive community service. In addition to numerous other service projects, Haley is the founder of the Summer Bag Lunch Program for the MainSpring House homeless shelter in Brockton, MA, which she has successfully coordinated since 2013.
