
Sharon's Community Center Beach re-opened to swimming Friday after an E. coli test result showed it was safe, Recreation Director Brett MacGowan said Monday.
The Sharon Board of Health closed the beach to swimming last Thursday after a Lake Massapoag sample tested high for E. coli.
A Massachusetts Department of Public Health fact sheet defines E. coli as "germs that normally live in the bowel of people and animals. Most strains of this germ are harmless, but the strain called E. coli O157:H7 can make people sick."

"The most common symptoms are severe stomach cramps and diarrhea," the fact sheet says.

Community Center Beach is located off the road leading from Massapoag Avenue to the and the .
Non-residents can only use this beach, although residents may use it as well. Memorial Park Beach, on Beach Street, is resident-only. This beach is on the other side of the lake.
