The idea for hosting the Musical World Café at the SPL arose out of an interest in highlighting Sharon’s unique blend of cultures and traditions. “We thought it would be great to experience the town’s different cultures through music, food and the arts,” explains Elizabeth Leehey, a member of the Friends of the SPL and a professional musician. “We saw it as a way to bring the community together to enjoy the diversity of Sharon.”

The program will kick off at 6:00 pm with the annual SPL Volunteer Appreciation Program, featuring a show by Fran Flynn Magician Extraordinaire and a cake donated by Shaw’s Supermarket. All SPL volunteers, including students from the Rustic Pathways and CHARMS programs at Sharon High School and adult and student volunteers at all SPL programs and events throughout the year will be honored for their contributions over the past 12 months.

Library Director Lee Ann Amend hopes the SPL’s first Musical World Café will grow into an ongoing tradition, with additional programs in the future. “Sharon’s multiculturalism has had an important influence on the library’s collection and the ways in which the library is used by the community,” she explains. “Through the Musical World Café, we hope to bring the Sharon community together to learn about the library and each other.”

The Musical World Café is open to the public. No reservations are required. In the event of snow, the Musical World Café will be held on December 11, 2014.
