Spotlight Shines On Sharon Artists

New Lakeside Gallery exhibit draws a crowd for its opening reception.

Wednesday night, visitors to the Lakeside Gallery at the  left with a greater appreciation for their neighbors' creativity, thanks to works such as Teplow's paper collage "Matisse Inspired Garden Room."

The 2nd annual juried community art show features 46 works by 28 artists, all Sharon residents. Wednesday night's opening reception drew a crowd to the gallery, 219 Massapoag Ave.

"I'm impressed with the talent in this town," Teplow said while checking out a piece.

The exhibit ends Jan. 13. The gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday;  Thursday until 8 p.m.; Friday until noon; and other evenings by appointment. For more information, call the Sharon Adult Center at 781-784-8000.

"It's fabulous," Lakeside Gallery Committee Chairman Sheila Pallay said of the turnout.

"Everybody loves it."

Some of the artists are showing their work for the first time, Pallay has said.

A number of the works are not for sale. The price range for those that are is $45, for Mary Saija's watercolor "Barns"; to $1,260 for Joan Benjamin-Farren's stained glass "Pomegranate Window."

The Friends of the Council on Aging will receive 20 percent of the proceeds from the art sales, Pallay has said.

The show features a variety of media, from acrylics to digital collage to photographs.

Resident Dale Kaplan said he came to support a friend, Dale Van Meter, whose watercolors, "Winter Street in Boston" and "Walk on Horseneck Beach" are in the show.

"It's wonderful to see," Kaplan said of the show.

"It's a great space. It's a great use of the space to have a community art show."

Camille Barron DelPadre said "some of the pieces are fascinating. They're just so creative."

"What we're trying to do is enhance the cultural awareness of Sharon residents," she said.

"To just see the kind of talent we have in this town is a wonderful thing."


Sponsors for the exhibit include the Sharon Adult Center, Friends of the Sharon Council on Aging, Eastern Bank and the Sharon Creative Arts Association.
