Through the student council, SMS also is hosting its annual Hoops for Heart basketball tournament this week.

The preliminary rounds are Tuesday, with the semi-finals and finals Friday.

Hoops for Heart T-shirts featuring a logo designed by eighth-grader Madhura Shah are being sold at the school during lunch periods this week for $10, according to the school's website. Memorial paper hearts are available for $1. All proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association.
