The Road Scholars 5k run took place on Sunday at .
Runners, both young and old, enjoyed the 5k and 1-mile fun run that kicked off at noon Sunday with 474 runners on the course that looped around town and back to the school.
In addition to the runners, many fans, families and friends cheered on the runners as they finished the race.

"I've run a lot of marathons and races," said Jim McKiernan, of Shrewsbury, who is 73. "I was in the last graduating class at Beal School, and I was in the Navy."
When asked how he has consistently kept up with running through the years, McKiernan said, "I always finish, but I've kept doing it because I'm slow—the other runners run out ahead, and I don't have any goals except to finish."

Top finishers for the 5k included Shrewsbury High School senior John Murray, who won the state title at the Massachusetts Division 1 Cross Country meet this fall.
The top woman runner was Xi-Chen, a second year medical student at UMass Medical School in Worcester.
