Utility Survey Work Planned In Several Shrewsbury Neighborhoods

Crews will inspect electric meters and equipment across multiple neighborhoods as part of a systemwide data update project.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Utility survey work will continue across several Shrewsbury neighborhoods throughout May as part of a broader effort to modernize the town’s electric system data.

Davey Resource Group, Inc., a contractor hired by Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations, is scheduled to begin work on May 4 along Boston Turnpike between Maple Avenue and Memorial Drive, as well as nearby side streets. Additional areas include Oak Street north of Route 9, Lake Street south of Route 9, and the Sheridan Drive, Williamsburg Court and Imperial Village apartment communities.

The work is part of a six-month, townwide project that began in February to verify and update SELCO’s Geographic Information System, a digital mapping system used to manage electric infrastructure.

Accurate GIS data helps SELCO oversee daily operations, improve outage response, identify potential system risks and maintain reliable electric service. The updated information will also support enhancements to the utility’s Outage Management System, officials said.

Residents should not expect any service interruptions during the work. Crews will inspect SELCO-owned equipment, such as electric meters and outdoor service connections, but will not need to enter homes.

Officials said all DRG vehicles will display a SELCO contractor emblem, and workers will carry official authorization letters.

SELCO plans to notify customers in advance, when possible, before crews begin work in specific areas.
