SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury residents will not find Department of Public Works staff at Town Hall on Wednesday as the town marks National Public Works Week with a day of specialized staff training.
An off-site training was scheduled for Wednesday, the town said. No DPW staff will be available at Town Hall during regular business hours that day, though residents with immediate or emergency needs are being directed to contact the Town Manager's Office.
A DPW staff member will be available to respond to and assess emergency situations as needed.
The announcement follows the Select Board's proclamation last Tuesday recognizing National Public Works Week in Shrewsbury. The annual observance is meant to highlight the work of public works professionals and the services they provide in their communities.
Shrewsbury’s Department of Public Works oversees many of the town’s core day-to-day services, including public buildings, roads, parks, utilities, trash and recycling support, infrastructure maintenance and conservation-related work.
The department includes seven divisions that provide those services across the community: Business Management, Public Facilities/Public Buildings, Parks & Cemetery, Water & Sewer, Highway & Forestry, Solid Waste and Engineering & Conservation.
The town said it also plans to share spotlights this week on each division to highlight the work DPW employees do every day.
