The state budget includes funding for Shrewsbury police to purchase a new patrol boat.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury police are in line for state funding to support additional patrols on Lake Quinsigamond.

The Shrewsbury Police Department is expected to receive $150,000 in state funding to purchase a police boat, Sen. Michael Moore (D-2nd Worcester) announced in a social media post Friday. Moore said the funding comes from a legislative earmark included in the FY27 state budget.

"Shrewsbury Police are set to receive $150,000 to purchase a police boat thanks to an earmark I secured in the FY27 budget," Sen. Moore wrote. "As one of three communities on Lake Quinsigamond, this will allow the town to better patrol the waters."

Lake Quinsigamond borders Grafton, Shrewsbury and Worcester. The Lake Quinsigamond Commission, which oversees environmental and public safety issues on the lake, includes representatives from all three communities, as well as police department representatives from Shrewsbury and Worcester.

The funding is included in the Senate version of the budget, which was sent to a conference committee following Senate debate. Conference committees reconcile differences between House and Senate budget proposals before a final spending plan is sent to the governor.
