SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury Select Board member Carlos Garcia was recognized Wednesday as part of a new State House awards ceremony celebrating LGBTQ+ leaders across Massachusetts.
State Rep. Hannah Kane said she and state Sen. Michael Moore nominated Garcia for the inaugural Commonwealth Pride Awards. The ceremony was held Wednesday morning in the Senate Chamber, where the Legislature’s LGBTQ+ Legislative Caucus honored more than 100 community leaders for work in public service, advocacy, medicine, education, business and other fields, according to the Massachusetts Legislature.
“Senator Mike Moore and I were proud to nominate Shrewsbury Select Board member Carlos Garcia for the inaugural Commonwealth Pride Awards,” Kane said. “Congratulations, Carlos!!”
The awards, billed in public nomination materials as “LGBTQ+ Excellence on the Hill,” recognized LGBTQ+ community members for their achievements, leadership and impact. The Legislature described the ceremony as a Pride Month event honoring more than 100 leaders from across Massachusetts, including public servants, advocates, educators, entrepreneurs and others.
The Town of Shrewsbury lists Garcia as vice chair of the Select Board, with a term expiring in May 2029. Garcia also serves as the Select Board designee on the town’s Affordable Housing Trust.
