Shrewsbury Select Board Member Carlos Garcia To Run For Re-Election
Shrewsbury residents will head to the polls to vote on two open seats in the Shrewsbury Select Board.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury residents will head to the polls to vote on two open seats in the Shrewsbury Select Board, and current member Carlos Garcia has announced his candidacy for re-election.
Garcia is currently serving in his first term on the Select Board and serves as a Town Meeting Member from Precinct 1. Garcia announced his candidacy on Monday, saying he is running for re-election because he understands that local government can play a positive role in enhancing lives.

"As the first in my family to graduate from high school, I experienced firsthand the benefits of a strong school system. As someone who grew up in a low-income household, I understand how local decisions can impact families like mine. As a young person, I understand how valuable it is to live in a safe community that offers opportunities to get ahead,” Garcia said in a statement.
He is the Select Board's designee to the Affordable Housing Trust and the Form of Government Study Committee, and previously served on the Finance Committee.

Garcia, who has lived in Shrewsbury for over 20 years, graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 2015 and earned a Bachelor's degree from Assumption College in Worcester.
He shared initiatives he has launched throughout his first term.
“I created a Private Road Maintenance Bylaw to enhance public safety. I established Shrewsbury as a Dementia Friendly Community to support our seniors. I advanced the Affordable Housing Trust’s Action Plan to address our housing needs," Garcia said. "I addressed food insecurity by bridging partnerships between the RISE program, St. Anne’s, and Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, and by purchasing a vehicle to support at-home deliveries for residents with mobility challenges."
The Shrewsbury Municipal Election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5. Seven town-wide office positions will appear on the ballot, including two seats on the Select Board, two seats on the School Committee, and three seats on the Trustees of the Public Library.
