North Quinsigamond Avenue Complete Streets Project Finished In Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, MA — A project to close a sidewalk gap along North Quinsigamond Avenue is now complete, town officials said.

The North Quinsigamond Avenue Complete Streets Project was finished this week, adding 3,500 linear feet of sidewalk, a 1-mile bike lane, 10 wheelchair ramp replacements and two new crosswalks along the north-south route, the town announced on Tuesday.

The work connects existing sidewalks to the north and south, creating a continuous walking route along the street. The new bike lane runs next to the sidewalk, giving cyclists a designated space on the road, the town said.

The project was part of Shrewsbury’s Complete Streets work.

A 2023 memo to the Select Board said the project was intended to extend sidewalk along North Quinsigamond Avenue, close a gap in the pedestrian network and improve accessibility. The memo also said the work included ADA ramp installation and repairs where new sidewalk connections were planned.

The town said the improvements were funded through MassDOT’s Complete Streets Program, with no impact to the local town budget.

The state program helps municipalities fund roadway projects that improve travel for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers, according to a MassDOT Complete Streets guide.
