SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury is celebrating a longtime public health board member after seven years of service.
Dr. George Abraham, who joined the Shrewsbury Board of Health on July 1, 2019 and became chair on July 1, 2023, departed the board on June 24 after serving more than two terms.
The Town of Shrewsbury and the Central MA Regional Health Department thanked Abraham for his volunteer service, saying his work had a significant impact on the community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abraham’s expertise in infectious diseases was “an invaluable asset” during the pandemic, according to the town.
Abraham is chief of medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester and is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, according to the hospital.
The Central MA Regional Health Department is based at Shrewsbury Town Hall and includes regional public health staff serving the town.
