Shrewsbury Opens Cooling Locations Amid Record Heat In MA

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury will open cooling locations this week as parts of Massachusetts face record-breaking heat and an Extreme Heat Watch from Wednesday through Friday.

Several locations across town will serve as cooling centers this week, including the Shrewsbury Public Library and the Shrewsbury Senior Center.

This comes as "extreme heat" is expected to feel like more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The National Weather Service on Monday issued an "Extreme Heat Watch" for all of Massachusetts, except for the Berkshires, Cape Cod and the Islands.

The hot weather will also bring the potential for severe storms — especially on Tuesday night, as the hottest weather arrives, and on July 4, as it departs.

Cooling centers will be open at the following times and locations:

• Wednesday, Jul 1
  • Shrewsbury Public Library from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Shrewsbury Senior Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Jul 2
  • Shrewsbury Public Library from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Shrewsbury Senior Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Friday, Jul 3
  • Public buildings are closed in observance of Independence Day. Those who are in need of heat relief can contact the Fire Department at 508-841-8522.
