June Was A Busy Month For Shrewsbury Police, New Data Shows

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury police handled more than 4,500 incidents in June, with officers responding to hundreds of calls on Lake Quinsigamond during the first full month of boating season.

The Shrewsbury Police Department logged 4,549 total incidents, 973 calls to 911, 20 arrests, and 9 criminal summonses issued during the month, according to statistics released by the department.

Police said the department’s Marine Unit remained active in June, conducting enforcement stops, vessel safety inspections and security checks of bridges and islands around Lake Quinsigamond. Officers handled 439 lake-related incidents during the month.

The June totals also included 600 motor vehicle stops, 182 reports of suspicious people, 128 accidents or disabled vehicles, 87 animal complaints, 76 investigations, 69 burglar alarm calls, 67 well-being checks and 58 disputes or disturbances.

Police also reported 20 domestic disputes, 18 identity theft reports, 12 larcenies and shopliftings, eight missing person reports, six threats and assaults, five arrest warrants served and two OUI cases involving alcohol or drugs.

The June numbers were up from May, when Shrewsbury police reported 4,242 total incidents, 959 calls to 911, 13 arrests and 62 lake incidents, according to a previous Patch report.

“Behind every number is a call for service, an investigation, a community interaction, or someone in need of assistance,” the department said in its June update.
