Shrewsbury WWII Veteran Honored Ahead Of 101st Birthday

SHREWSBURY, MA — A Shrewsbury World War II veteran was honored last week ahead of his 101st birthday later this month.

Ed Randall was honored with an official citation from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services recognizing his “unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and steadfast service to [our] country.” Randall was presented with the citation from Veterans Services Director Jeff Farrell at The Residence at Orchard Grove.

Randall served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was injured in combat and later captured, spending time as a prisoner of war in German Stalags until the end of the war.

Randall’s military honors include the Silver Star Medal, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

The Silver Star is awarded for valor in combat. The Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster recognizes that Randall received the award twice for injuries sustained in service. His campaign medal recognizes participation in three major World War II campaigns.
