SHREWSBURY, MA — A new swim school offering year-round lessons for children has officially announced when it will open in Shrewsbury.
Big Blue Swim School will open its fourth Massachusetts location at 100 Boston Tpke. The business will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 28, followed by a free family event Aug. 29.
The school will offer weekly lessons for children ages 3 months and older seven days a week. Classes will run from 30 to 45 minutes and will be organized by skill level.
The facility will include a pool heated to 90 degrees, a viewing area, private changing rooms, free Wi-Fi and parking. Families can use the company's mobile app to schedule lessons and monitor swimmers' progress.
The ribbon cutting will begin at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 with the location's owners, representatives from Acella Construction Corp. and the Corridor 9/495 Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Family Fun Day will run from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 29. The event will include cotton candy, face painting, music, games, crafts, photo opportunities and pool tours. WXLO and morning show host Jen Carter are also scheduled to appear.
Big Blue Swim School was founded in 2009 by competitive swimmer Chris DeJong and operates more than 60 locations nationwide, according to the company.
