Shrewsbury Master Plan Update Kicks Off

SHREWSBURY, MA — Residents will have several opportunities to weigh in as Shrewsbury maps out its priorities for the coming decades.

The Planning Board has begun updating the town's 2016 Master Plan with help from Barrett Planning Group. The new plan will guide decisions involving land use, housing, economic development, transportation, open space, community facilities and sustainability over the next 10 to 20 years, according to the project website.

The Master Plan Steering Committee held its first meeting Sept. 16 at Town Hall. The agenda included an overview of the planning process, committee organization and community outreach.

The Master Plan Steering Committee consists of two board members, five at-large residents, and two alternates, who were appointed in July.

Select Board members Gregg Richards and Michelle Conlin were appointed as the board's representatives on the committee.

The at-large resident members are Ken Griswold, Caroline Macomber, Leah Serafin Maroney, Doug Muzzy and Shannon Wall. Kathleen Flynn and Lawrence Ondovic were appointed as alternates.

Updates To Master Plan, Public Input

The update will examine changes and progress since the committee completed the current plan in 2016. Its first major component will inventory and assess existing conditions and trends across the plan's subject areas, according to Barrett Planning Group.

Community members can begin participating through a monthly question posted on the project website. The first asks respondents to describe in five words or fewer what they want the Master Plan to address. The Planning Department will share responses from each month at steering committee meetings.

Residents can follow the process and submit feedback through the Shrewsbury Master Plan website.
