SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Police Department has received a major grant to support its emergency communications services.

The town's police department was awarded $173,283 to reimburse the department for 911 dispatcher salaries during the current fiscal year, police announced Tuesday. The funding was awarded through the fiscal 2027 State 911 Department Support and Incentive Grant administered by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

The department applies for the grant annually to help maintain and improve 911 communications services and staffing.

Police said the funding allows the department to provide those services without additional costs to Shrewsbury taxpayers.

Separate Grant Will Support Road Safety

The department was also recently awarded $35,036.26 through the Municipal Road Safety Grant Program.

That program provides money to municipal police departments for traffic enforcement, equipment and safety programs. The grant covers the federal fiscal 2027 cycle, which runs from November 2026 through September 2027.

The state Office of Grants and Research administers the program using funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
