Boy Scouts’ New Website Helps Families Find Summer Camps

BeACamper.org a One-Stop Resource to Help Parents With Camp Selections

April 2, 2012 (Boston, MA) – The Boy Scouts of America Boston Minuteman Council has launched a new website to assist parents in selecting a summer camp for their children.  BeACamper.org serves as a one-stop resource for parents’ summer camp inquiries, conveniently combining all available summer camp options and information, as well as easy registration and payment methods.  Creation of this new resource was a collaborative effort among eight Massachusetts Boy Scout Councils to provide families with information needed to find easily accessible summer camps throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

The site is the result of a collaborative effort among eight Massachusetts Boy Scout Councils to provide families with information needed to find easily accessible summer camps throughout Eastern Massachusetts. With the click of a button, parents will find detailed information on Cub Scout Resident Camps, Family Camps, and Cub Scout Day Camps.  BeACamper.org makes it possible for parents to find an affordable camp option that best fits the needs of their child and family.

“BeACamper.org was created with the family in mind,” said Chuck Eaton, chief executive of the Boy Scouts Boston Minuteman Council. “Since 2010 our Cub Scout Day Camp program has grown from 150 campers to more than 750. We’ve added two additional locations and four additional weeks.”

The rapid expansion is caused by shifting a focus to become more family friendly. More locations allow the Cub Scouts to attend a camp closer to home. Additionally, the Scouts have added after-camp care, busses and lunch services at several camps.

“The website continues to add simplicity to the Scout program,” said Eaton. “By collaborating with neighboring Scout Councils, parents in Eastern Mass can now choose from 11 Day Camp locations and create a summer schedule that fits their needs. The site synthesizes the information down to one crisp easy to navigate page,” he said.

To help raise awareness of BeACamper.org, Clear Channel Outdoor has donated billboard space to the Boston Minuteman Council. Billboards promoting the new website will be seen in various Eastern Mass communities throughout the spring.  These include billboards located on Route 3A in Weymouth and on Route 27 in Stoughton.

“The Boy Scouts provide a values-based program that benefits youth and their families,” said Stephen Ross, president of Clear Channel Outdoor’s Boston Division.  “We are proud to assist this organization in reaching more families to enhance their ability to select a quality summer camp for their children.”
