Be Conscious of What You Say to Your Children

Parenting is the toughest but most rewarding job in the world.

I have worked with children all my adult life. I started as a social worker right out of college at 22. The job was so challenging and my heart just crumbled at the thought of children being abused and neglected.

Before having children I thought that was the toughest job in the world. Things have changed since giving birth to my daughter in 2008. I never pictured myself as a stay at home mom, but I couldn't imagine leaving my daughter after giving birth.

I have embraced my "new life" and love every moment of it. I delved into the world of mom's groups and playgroups, which has helped with my sanity over the years. My son was born in 2010 and its a challenge caring for two children. But I find so much joy in knowing that my children are being raised by me.

Trust me there are days that they push my buttons. Luckily all my years as a social worker has taught me patience. I never realized how important those skills would be later in life.

I am trying to instill a sense of compassion, empathy and honesty with my children. There's nothing more satisfying than hearing your child utter your own words. It provides you with the knowledge that what you do and say really does have an impact. So always be conscious of what you do and say around your children because believe me they are listening!
