Dr. Todd A. Pizzi, shares advice about the dangers of gum disease, how to recognize it, treat it, and prevent it altogether.

Without healthy gums you cannot keep teeth healthy because gums are the foundation of your smile. Unhealthy gums can lead to bone loss and when your mouth’s bone structure is compromised teeth are often lost because they cannot be held in place.

What causes gum disease?

The main cause of gum disease is plaque. Plaque is a filmy bacteria that is constantly forming in your mouth, around your teeth, and along your gumline. If left untreated plaque buildup can cause your gums to become infected and swollen.
