Is Shrewsbury a Walkable Town?

Walkabilty-Is Shrewsbury a walkable town?

This past August, the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission and town officials and residents took a tour of the sidewalks around the town hall. Since the results were not made public, I heard firsthand from a representative from this commission that it was helpful to know more about the conditions of the sidewalks in Shrewsbury.

The purpose is to assess for walkability. What does walkability mean? Well, it is regarding the condition of the sidewalks and curb cuts being accessible for all residents to walk freely without obstacles.  Also, there is a national trend to improve the conditions of the sidewalks and curb cuts to decrease obesity in children and adults. As we know, one of the main obstacles for residents is the lack of a snow ordinance to improve walkability after a snow storm in town. While Worcester and other towns enforce their snow ordinances through fines on residents' tax bills, what makes Shrewsbury so special that they don't need one? The State Supreme Court ruled that homeowners/businsses are responsible if someone falls on their unshoveled sidewalks. You would think that Shrewsbury would be more active in passing a snow ordinance to avoid costly lawsuits.

I would like residents to list the sidewalks and curb cuts on this blogpost that are not accessible and safe.

Also, do you support a snow ordinance for both businesses and for residents?
