LETTER: Volunteers Contribute to Success of Library Carnival
Library Carnival Lets SPL Volunteers Prove Why They Are Amazing!

I am writing to publicly express my gratitude to the many volunteers, young and old, who made the Third Annual Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival such a massive success. An estimated 800-900 residents of all ages attended the event during the five hour time block on Wednesday, June 20th. With such high traffic, the event would have been overwhelming if not for the assistance of over forty willing individuals. From cutting out decorations, registering patrons into the summer program, serving snacks, running game booths, and a variety of other impressive tasks, the SPL was transformed into the best carnival we could have with the facility we're in. Some youth volunteers spent over eight hours from prep to event to clean-up in areas of the library without a working air-conditioning unit on what was one of the hottest days of the year so far. The volunteers didn't complain - they just worked hard to make the event a pleasure for all those in attendance. I would also like to thank the Friends of the Library for sponsoring the event, SELCO who donated tons of prizes, SPLAT who ran the game booths, facepainting and food stations, and representatives from a number of local establishments including SHARC and the Worcester Sharks! Papa Gino's also made a nice donation to the event that children will continue to enjoy throughout the summer (*hint, it involves free pizza certificates for reading!).
If you missed the event, you can still register for the summer reading program (which is open to those of all ages) which runs the entire summer. Visit readsinma.org/shrewsbury to enroll in the free program which will enable you to win one of many donated prizes (a list of prizes is available at the Library).
