Remembering 9/11
Who would have known that two planes would have crashed into these buildings a few weeks later?
This weekend, many towns and cities will be holding different events to remember those who perished on Sept. 11, 2001.
I remember how I was getting ready for work when I happen to turn my TV on. I could not believe that a plane crashed into the first tower at the World Trade Center. I called my parents in Orange County, CA around 8:50 a.m., which was 5:50 a.m. PST their time to notify them of this tragic event.
They were visiting their son and his wife. My father answered and I told him the news. My mother got on the telephone as I told her what happened. They stayed up to watch it as I went to work to tell my colleagues. They could not believe it either.

Many of my co-workers went on the Internet to follow the story of this attack. The rest is history as we found out about the other three plane attacks afterwards
I was deeply deeply saddened to hear how the two world trade center buildings were destroyed. A few weeks earlier I remembered touching the thick solid steele outside of Tower 1 when my spouse and I were visiting Lower Manhattan with my parents.

I also remembered looking up at its great presence in the sky and wondering if a plane can ever crash into it. At that time, many planes passed by it on their way to land at Newark Airport in New Jersey.
Who would have known that two planes would have crashed into these buildings a few weeks later? My gut told me it was not an accident as the media first reported it.
As a high school senior in 1983, I remembered going outside on the roof of Tower 1 (100 floors up) with my fellow students to observe how the streets and avenues were designed like "X" (for streets) and "Y" (for avenues) coordinates on a grid for our pre-calculus class. When I looked down from the roof, I felt butterflies hitting my stomach as the high winds hit my body. I was scared of being on the top of the world despite the great scenery I saw.
My parents did make it home safe a week later after their plane landed in Newark Airport. They said that the passengers applauded the pilots and thanked the crew for a safe trip home.
May healing and prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.
