Snow Removal Ordinance is Needed

Over and over again, I have advocated to fellow residents to ask our powers that be to pass a bylaw for snow removal for our sidewalks in town.

This winter has brought a lot of snow for the Central Massachusetts area. While snow looks pretty on the trees and the hills, snow can also be a hindrance on our sidewalks in town.

Worcester has an ordinance for snow removal for businesses and homeowners; Shrewsbury currently does not have a bylaw.

Over and over again, I have advocated to fellow residents to ask our powers that be to pass a bylaw for snow removal for our sidewalks in town. While the town is mandated to clear snow on public ways, it does pick and choose what snow to remove on the sidewalks along the main roads. I do support them for doing so as snow removal promotes accessibility for all residents to walk safely on the sidewalks as opposed to being in harms way from the cars and trucks in the streets.

I am by no means saying that Shrewsbury is a "bad place to live" if a bylaw is not passed. It is not a matter of being a bad place to live but a healthy community that promote accessibility for all residents in town. Unfortunately, some residents with small minds don't understand the big picture. Instead of attacking me and other residents who promote accessibility for persons with disabilities, use your energy instead to persuade the powers to be to pass a bylaw for snow removal for business and homeowners in town.

Ignorance is bliss and not something to be proud of.
