It is abolutely ridiculous that Republicans and Democrats can't come to an agreement on the budget that will avoid our country from being in default. It is time for elected federal officials to get their act together and to step beyond their egos to work together for a balanced budget for the American people.
Both sides have to give a little. The Democrats need to reduce funds for social programs that have become too expensive and unaffordable to taxpayers. The Republicans need to agree to reduce loopholes for big companies that pay little or no taxes and to some form of a tax increase for the very rich.
When and if the budget is passed, it is time for Congress to hold hearings on the social programs for Medicare; Medicaid; and Social Security to discuss creative ways to reduce fraud and abuse. At the same time, Congress needs to also hold hearings to discuss ways to reduce corporate tax loopholes for big businesses across the US.
