Brush Fire In Shrewsbury Burns Across Multiple Acres
The fire broke out in a wooded area south of Route 9 over the weekend, according to Shrewsbury firefighters.
SHREWSBURY, MA — Amid a critical drought in central Massachusetts, Shrewsbury firefighters battled a multi-acre brush fire over the weekend.
The Sunday fire burned across 3-1/2 acres between Worthington Avenue and Jordan Pond, which is just southeast of the White City shopping plaza along Route 9.
"The cause of the fire is undetermined. Residents are reminded to be careful when using fire or smoking materials as the dry conditions can lead to run away brush fires!" Shrewsbury firefighters said in a Facebook post.

Due to lower rainfall over the spring and early summer months, Massachusetts entered a Level 3 critical drought two weeks ago. State officials are asking residents in the area to use less water outdoors, and to watch for fire triggers — including when disposing of cigarette waste and around outdoor burning and barbecue areas.
