Desai and the Colonials Prepare for the Postseason
Shrewsbury and its senior hurler are looking forward to a deep playoff run.
If the baseball team is to make any noise this postseason, senior ace and captain Josh Desai will lead the way.
Desai has had a stellar campaign for the Colonials, including a no-hitter against North Middlesex Regional on May 20.
“Josh has been our M.V.P this year by far. We’re a completely different team when he’s on the mound,” said Shrewsbury manager Lee Diamantopoulos. “He’s one of those kids who bring the intangibles and a level of toughness to the field everyday. He has the qualities of a player you just can’t coach.”

The Colonials enter the Central Mass. Division 1 Tournament with a 10-10 record. Despite finishing the regular season on a two-game losing streak (Leominster and Nashoba Regional) Desai and his teammates will be ready to take on whoever stands in their path.
“We have a good team, and we think we can do a lot of damage come playoff time, we’re getting there. I like the group we have and am looking forward to whoever we play,” Desai said. “It’s a big help when you have good guys around you to help out and also provide leadership.”

According to the Colonials' skipper, Desai has been the MVP of the season and the team’s leader both on and off the field however, the senior was quick to give credit to his teammates.
“I want to make sure my teammates get the credit they deserve too,” said Desai, who was also a member of the school’s basketball program during the winter months.
As for Desai’s no-hitter against a potent Patriots lineup last Friday, both player and manager agree that the powerful Colonials hurler was in top form that afternoon.
“I felt great on the mound that day. I was really bringing it,” said Desai, who lists Boston Red Sox left-handed ace Jon Lester as his favorite player. “My defense behind me did a great job, and it was a solid team win.”
With the postseason about to kick off, a word of advice to whoever the Colonials opposition is in the first round would be not take this Shrewsbury team for granted because if they do, it will be an early exit for that squad.
After graduation Desai plans to continue his baseball playing career at the collegiate level as he will be attending Suffolk University in Boston this fall.
