IMAGE GALLERY: 5th Annual Road Scholars 5K

Morgan, 16, and her cousins Sheila, 16, and Katie Bashant, 18, came all the way from Ballston Lake, N.Y., to participate in the 5th Annual Shrewsbury Road Scholars 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run at Sunday—and it was worth the trip. The three took the top medals in the women's age 14 to 18 category.

Sheila, who received the first place medal, and Katie, who received second place, are sisters and formerly lived in Shrewsbury. Morgan took third place.

Lots of medals were given out in many age categories for men and women. The race began and ended at the middle school and participants had a choice of running either a 5K or a 1 mile fun run.

The event raised money for the Citizens Education Fund, which provides funding for the schools to purchase books and materials and support programs and activities.
