Letter: Why I’m Supporting Beth Casavant for Shrewsbury Select Board

The following was submitted to Shrewsbury Patch by Roy A. Balfour.

SHREWSBURY, MA — I’m a longtime Shrewsbury resident and a fellow Rotarian, and I want to share why I’m supporting Beth Casavant for reelection to the Select Board.

Beth has spent her time on the board focused on the basics of good local government: communicating clearly with residents, planning responsibly for the town’s future, and supporting public safety, schools, and municipal services. One example that stands out to me is her role in extending the life of the 2021 override, which helped Shrewsbury maintain essential services without additional tax increases.

Beth’s commitment to the community doesn’t stop at Town Hall. As President of the Shrewsbury Rotary Club, she leads by Rotary’s Four‐Way Test: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Those principles show up in real ways through Rotary’s volunteer work and charitable efforts here in Shrewsbury.

Local government works best when leaders are experienced, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in the community. In my view, Beth Casavant brings those qualities to the Select Board, and I believe she has earned another term.
