Man, 83, Dies After I-290 Crash In Shrewsbury

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on New Year's Eve when the man's car hit a guardrail, according to state police.

SHREWSBURY, MA — An 83-year-old man from Billerica is dead following a single-car crash along I-290 in Shrewsbury early Tuesday morning. The cause of the crash was still under investigation as of Tuesday afternoon.

According to state police, Gary Pike was driving westbound along I-290 near Gulf Street at around 2:30 a.m. when he lost control of his Ford Focus. Pike then crashed into a guardrail near mile marker 12.6.

Pike was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the incident is still under investigation, state police said in a press release.
