Richard Joseph Sr., Joseph’s father, started the landscape business while his son was in college. The company, R. J. Services, Inc. formally began in 1988 with the merging of the landscape maintenance, design and installation business with tile, marble, masonry work, water falls, fish ponds, landscape lighting and more.
The tile and masonry portion of his business merged a short time later. He has been running this successful business for over 20 years and prides himself on customer satisfaction.
Much of the work that Joseph does is within the town of Shrewsbury although he is willing to travel to do a job for a client.
He works on about 45 lawns in town for maintenance. For a nice masonry or tile job or waterfall installation, he is willing to drive outside of the area.
“One of the things I love about my job is the opportunity to be creative. We do top notch work and leave our customers smiling. There’s nothing I like better than seeing a happy customer after we have transformed their yard or a room with a job that we have done,” Joseph said.
Although Joseph’s degree is in computer programming with a minor in information systems, he has learned the design aspect from the experience that he has gotten over the years while working on the job.
One of the most challenging things for Joseph is fixing someone else’s mistakes.
“There are times when someone will call after getting a referral to us and want us to rip up someone else’s work to make it the way the customer wanted it to be in the first place,” Joseph said.
Although the tile design and installation work is really creative, Joseph admits that he especially enjoys being outdoors and turning someone’s backyard into a place of serenity.
“I love to add water features, bird baths with water features, and walkways,” Joseph said.
There are two full-time employees at R. J. Services, Inc. When a client calls, they will speak directly to Joseph. There are no sub-contractors to deal with and Joseph goes to every job from the time it’s conceptualized until the time it is completed. This insures 100 percent quality.
“On every contract I add that the final payment is due upon a happy customer,” Joseph said.
