Shrewsbury 6th Grader at States for National Geographic Bee

A Shrewsbury boy represented Worcester Academy in the state level of the National Geographic Bee.

Sixth-grader Alec Zhu of Shrewsbury represented Worcester Academy at the 2015 Massachusetts State Level National Geographic Bee.

The Massachusetts State Level Geographic Bee Semifinals and Finals were held at Worcester Academy March 27.

Alec qualified for the state competition based upon the high scores he received on National Geographic Bee test materials, according to a press release.

Each year, thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography, said the release.

Schools with students in grades four through eight are eligible for this entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge.
