Shrewsbury Basketball Loses to Alta High

Shrewsbury Colonials lose 65 - 52 in this weekend's game against Alta High.

The Colonials first loss of the season came in their second game against a rare opponent from Alta High School.

Alta High consists of 2,000 students total from Sandy and Draper Utah, and has graduated several talented basketball players including former Connecticut star Travis Knight.

The Alta Hawks made the 40-hour drive by bus for this match up. The Colonials were without their big man Matt Kneece for this one.

A scrappy, back and fourth first half ended with a 2-point lead for Alta. The Shrewsbury super fans were out in full force for this one, only sitting down for the brief halftime period.

Even after shooting a poor percentage from 3-point land, Alta came out shooting just as aggressively in the second half.

Shrewsbury's Will Michalski stepped up in place of Kneece as the big presence down low for the Colonials, finishing with 12 points and a dozen combined rebounds and blocks as well.

Ryan Stowe lead all scorers with 21 points for the Colonials and was one of the few bright lights on the Christmas tree that was the Shrewsbury High School boys basketball team.

Shrewsbury only stayed in the game because the refs were blowing the whistles like they got a bonus to do so, constantly stopping play, and sending Colonials to the line.

Nevertheless, the Hawks played through, and held on to beat Shrewsbury 65 - 52.
