Shrewsbury Fire Department Awarded $25K For New Gear

The award was part of $5 million in funding to fire departments across the state.

SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Fire Department is among hundreds of departments in the state that were awarded funding to purchase new safety equipment.

Shrewsbury was awarded a $25,000 grant to purchase equipment, including protective gear and other tools, to keep firefighters safe on the job, and to strengthen public safety and protect first responders. The grant was part of $5 million in grant funding to fire departments across the state, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced on Wednesday.

The Shrewsbury Fire Department said it will use this funding to buy new turnout gear, which is specialized equipment firefighters wear to shield themselves from extreme heat, flames and environmental hazards.
