Shrewsbury Man Arrested At Boston 'Free Speech Rally'

SHREWSBURY, MA – Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said "99.9 percent" of the people at Saturday's counter-protest of the "Second Boston Free Speech Rally" were well-behaved, but several people were taken into custody during the event at the Boston Common. Among the 33 people arrested was a Shrewsbury resident.

"In the days leading up today’s event, both Mayor Walsh and Commissioner Evans asked, encouraged and urged all those attending today’s events to be on their best behavior and to embrace nonviolence over violence," Boston police said in a statement on their website. "Thankfully, the majority of those attending did just that. Unfortunately, not everybody understood the importance of good behavior."

The bulk of arrests were for disturbing a public assembly, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. One person was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Trevor Carey, 24, of Shrewsbury, faces a charge of disorderly conduct in relation to Saturday's event.
