SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury drivers may see more police officers watching for speeders this month as part of a statewide road safety campaign.
The Shrewsbury Police Department said Tuesday it will participate in the state's June speed enforcement campaign, using Municipal Road Safety Grant funding to add traffic enforcement officers throughout town. Police said the effort is aimed at preventing crashes and protecting drivers, passengers, pedestrians and cyclists.
The Municipal Road Safety Grant Program provides funding to municipal police departments for traffic safety enforcement, equipment and traffic safety programs.

In October, Shrewsbury police were awarded $38,000 from the Municipal Road Safety Program, according to Rep. Kane. The program helps local police departments improve traffic safety and prevent accidents and injuries on the road.
"Speeding catches up with you," the department said in its announcement Tuesday. "It's better to be a few minutes late than not there at all."
